Single moms have been on my mind a lot lately. A single mom raised me. I have friends who are single moms. I see how lonely and exhausting it can be. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, consider honoring a single mom in your family or circle of friends with this special surprise. Borrow her kids for a few hours on a weekend and send them home with this handmade Mother’s Day gift while providing her with some much-needed me-time.
First Things First
You’ll need a 4×4 photo for this activity, so snap a pic of the kids as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can ask their mom for a photo or grab one from her social media. I order one-hour photos for pick-up through the Walgreens app. They usually take less than an hour and can cost less than 50 cents each with a promo code!
Round Up Your Supplies
If you’re crafty like me, you probably have most of these supplies on hand, making this an easy AND budget-friendly gift. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 4×4 photo(s)
- 4×4 canvas(es) – I bought a 6-pack from Hobby Lobby for less than $5
- Acrylic paint
- Foam brushes
- Mod Podge
- Hot glue
- Scissors/Paper cutter
- Embellishments (flowers, rhinestones, stickers, etc.)
Time to Get Crafty
This craft is very kid-friendly, so set them loose and watch the masterpieces unfold. Be sure to assist with hot glue for the littles!
- Paint the sides and top edges of the canvas. Use two coats of acrylic paint for the best coverage, allowing it to dry fully after each coat (about 7 minutes).
- Trim the photo to be slightly smaller than the 4×4 canvas.
- Cover the top side of the canvas with Mod Podge and attach the photo.
- Seal the photo and the sides of the canvas with another layer of Mod Podge. Allow to dry fully (about 10 minutes).
- Add embellishments using hot glue.
This craft also makes a great Mother’s Day gift for grandmas, stepmoms, aunts, or anyone else who takes a mothering role in your child’s life. If you make this craft, please tag El Paso Mom in your photos and videos so we can see your beautiful creations!
