A little over a year after getting a puppy, we realized we needed to hire a dog trainer. As a mom, there is nothing more important to me than keeping my child safe. When my son was born, we had two very well-trained dogs who welcomed our son into the home with open arms (or paws, in this case!). We lost one of our dogs shortly after our son was born, and our other was getting old, so we decided to get a puppy when our son was almost two years old.
Everything was going great until we realized our puppy was resource-guarding and became food aggressive with our toddler. As a mom, my first instinct was to get rid of the dog to keep my home peaceful and my child safe. But after some thought, we decided to enlist the help of a professional dog trainer.
Dog training is so much more than just teaching tricks or correcting behaviors.
It’s about healthy discipline and strengthening the bond between your family and your dog. There are many different options for dog training in El Paso and the route you choose depends on the time you have to commit to training and what you are looking to get out of it. (We are a busy family, so we opted for a board and train program where our dog would quickly learn the fundamentals). Keep in mind–dog training is a commitment, no matter which type of training program you choose. Repetition and consistency are crucial!
