Finding a sustainable job in a one-income household and juggling your child’s school schedule can be hard but luckily it’s not impossible! Here are my recommendations below.

Sustainable Jobs for Moms in a One-Income Household

1. Healthcare Jobs

Of course there are many ways to find a healthcare job, such as hospitals, nursing homes, or company websites! There are even personal care aide jobs that are great for juggling your kids’ work schedule at the same time.

Home Health and Personal Care Aides (PCA)

Many companies are looking to hire more personal care aides! This job does have a high turnover rate due to certain circumstances that the job entails. However, it is still a great job with many different schedules available to accommodate the company’s large amount of clients! They will help pair you with a client in your area that also fits your schedule!

How to Apply:
Search for healthcare jobs or personal care aides on Indeed or apply directly on a company’s site, such as Elite Elderly Care, New Mission Home Care, Cornerstone Caregiving, and Del Sol.

2. Working at Your Child’s School

If you work at your child’s school, you will luckily have the same schedule as them! Save money on gas and really get to know the environment that your child is in on a daily basis. There are over 100+ jobs available in El Paso school districts right now! Here are a few below:

  • Teacher
  • Substitute
  • Paraprofessional
  • Secretary
  • Office Aide
  • Librarian
  • School Nurse
How to Apply:

Search the name of your child’s school and click on “get involved” or “jobs” on their school website. For public schools, search for your child’s school district and type in “jobs.” For example, YISD Jobs. Create an account and apply to future vacancies or for a job that has your child’s school name under the location section.

Obtaining your bachelor’s degree can help you get a high-paying job that is sustainable for a working mom in a one income household! Whether you get a degree in a career you are passionate about or for a job you want.

However, maybe you are not sure which degree plan to follow and you want to keep your options open. In this case, I highly recommend getting a bachelor’s in multidisciplinary studies where many, if not all, of any previous college credits will transfer, helping you get a bachelor’s degree faster!

Notably, some jobs just require a bachelor’s degree and can help you gain certification for specific requirements if needed while you work! Some jobs can also substitute education requirements with relative work experience which is great too.

You got this, mama, and I wish you the best in all your endeavors!
