5 Skincare Must Haves When Traveling

0

Spring has sprung, and you’re probably already planning your summer vacation. If so, you’re not alone, summer travel plans are officially underway for me. As I consider my travel plans, I’m already thinking about the space, or lack thereof, available in my luggage to bring all the skincare products I think I may need.

Keep it simple.

My skincare is always at the top of my packing list, and with limited space, I have to be very selective in what I pack. While traveling I want to keep things simple and easy, but I also want to make sure I look my best at all times (for all those selfies). For some of us with a substantial skincare regimen, it can be difficult to scale down, if even for a few days. I’m here to let you know that it is possible to keep it simple but still have an effective routine while on vacation. Traveling is stressful enough without trying to do a 10-step skincare routine too.

I’m going to share with you the top five skincare products you need to have when traveling.

Before you pack.

There are a few things to consider before choosing which skincare products to pack.

Where are you going? How long will you be there? What’s the weather/climate like? What activities will you be doing? Okay, so maybe that’s more than a few, but you really want to consider everything so you’re not packing the wrong things. Imagine packing a heavy moisturizer for a location with hot, humid weather or only having enough cleanser for four days when you’re staying 10 days. You nor your skin would be very happy in either scenario. Don’t forget to de-pot into smaller containers if you’re only taking carry-on luggage on a flight.

5 Skincare Must Haves When TravelingSkin stressors.

Before the five must have products are revealed, you should understand why they’re important. When we travel, there are several things that affect our bodies and our skin. We may be traveling to a different climate, going from dry to humid or humid to dry. Maybe we’re going to a different time zone or staying up later than normal (making sure we don’t miss a moment of fun). We’ll probably even eat differently. Let’s be honest, food always tastes better in a different city. If we’re traveling by air, consider the recycled, filtered air which is drier than outdoors. These sudden changes can stress our skin, and we don’t want to be looking dull in our vacay photos.

The top five skincare products to pack for vacation.

Remember, we’re short on time and need to keep things simple, but we also need to be mindful of keeping our skin hydrated and happy so we’re glowing in all those pictures we’re gonna post on social media. So, what five items can do all that?

  1. Facial Mist

A facial mist is going to help keep your skin hydrated and the pH levels balanced. Something light, refreshing, and botanical would be my choice.

  2. Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are amazing for soothing irritated skin, hydrating, and giving us a few moments of relaxation after a busy day of sightseeing. You can choose any masks to target any of your specific concerns, but I like to focus on hydration and replenishment when traveling.

  3. Lip Conditioner

You’ll also want to have a lip conditioner on hand to use frequently. The lips are often forgotten about when we do our skincare routine but they need a little love too. Make sure you keep your lips soft and smooth, so they aren’t cracking every time you smile for a selfie.

  4. Serum

Serums are amazing treatments for the skin. Definitely pack at least one serum that will help keep the skin soft, supple, moisturized, and glowing. Since these are packed with potent ingredients, a little goes a long way.

  5. Eye Cream

Last but definitely not least, eye cream! A personal favorite of mine. Eye creams target multiple concerns: puffiness, dullness, and even fine lines. Eye cream keeps us looking bright eyed and bushy tailed after a long layover with a fussy toddler. The best part is that in a pinch they can double as a face moisturizer.

Of course you’ll also need your cleanser and a moisturizer, and for sure don’t forget the SPF. Choose a cleanser and moisturizer that will work in the climate you’re going to.

The recap.

So, we’ve learned that skincare doesn’t have to be complicated when traveling. It should be simple, easy, and maybe even a little fun. Although traveling can stress our skin (among other things), we can combat that with the right products. The five skincare products we should pack when traveling are: facial mist, serum, sheet masks, eye cream, and lip conditioner. Now, all you have to decide is where to go.
