‘Tis the season for food, family, and friends. Along with all the merriment, we are met with a long list of parties, performances, and of course, gifts.

But it doesn’t have or need to be overwhelming. I’ve gathered a number of my favorite local shops, restaurants, and experiences that would make anyone merry.

El Paso Live!

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing multiple shows through the years (Hamilton, The Lion King, and Wicked to name a few). I’ve also had the pleasure of taking a tour on a Tuesday and gifting tickets to family members to enjoy a show or two at the Plaza Theatre.

Dear Leslie Photography

Leslie is a sweet soul whose art and passion are evident behind the lens. She was born and raised in El Paso! What better way to capture an experience than by a professional? Here is a little about her:
“I’m also a follower of Christ, lover of Hot Cheetos and pickle-flavored anything. Mother to Olivia and Zoe, pastor’s wife, worship team singer, and guitar player. Master at waking up late, collector of hats, and queen of iced coconut lattes and boneless buffalo wings. As a photographer, I’m all about chasing the authentic, beautiful, real moments. The tickles, the laughter, the moments in between. I LIVE FOR IT.” Check out her Instagram to see some of her beautiful work.

Rivas Taco Shop

The flautas supreme with a side of fries is my favorite order (insert drool here). My husband loves to order the 12-count flautas. (Yes, 12 count–he can eat.) My parents enjoy the red enchiladas and tacos. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with your order at Rivas Taco Shop. Here is a little history of how they came to be from their website:

“After working for many years at Quazar, TV and Appliance company in Chicago, the company was closed down and forced my family to move to San Diego California, where both my parents, Eva and Ismael worked for a small taco shop owner in 1984.
Soon after that, my parents were given the opportunity to run the business for the owner at the time. Later becoming owners themselves. By 1995, my parents had opened three taco shops. Their next journey was to take this craze to Phoenix, Arizona by the summer of 1995. Where after many years my parents had the opportunity to open and sell a few more taco shops before finally retiring two decades later in 2015.
By 2010, My brother decided to follow suit to franchise with my parents and open up his taco shop in Surprise, Arizona, where he presently continues to do business. In 2015, we pitched the idea to my mom of bringing a little taste of SoCal to El Paso, where she suggested that we do it ourselves, meaning my husband Robert Armendariz and I.
We took the plunge and with her guidance, we brought Rivas Taco Shop to El Paso in January 2016. Fast forward four years later, and we have been awarded the “Best Burrito” award by “Best of the Best” in the city of El Paso.”

150 Sunset

Their French Toast is . . . chef’s kiss. I had the pleasure of holding my baby shower here for my third baby, and the service and food were impeccable. But what everyone remembers the most was the wonderful brunch spread.

From their website: “We focus on healthy and fun food options to complement our flora and fauna theme. Enjoy our delicious, fresh, creative fare with a healthy twist in the welcoming atmosphere of our restaurant and patio.”

Chilaquiles Buen Dia

One of my favorite places to take people with not one, but two locations

Buen Dia is becoming a new staple for most of my friends. With generous portions and scrumptious cuisine, I have no doubt this will become a new staple for us as well.
