I need more of it. Energy, that is. I am certain you do too.
Improved energy levels will boost your mood. As a mom, the energy is always lacking. Just thinking of the things . . . all of the things. So many THINGS! There are so many things that need your attention. No more feeling sluggish and dull. These tips are a start to a better you.
So many THINGS!
Here are 10 habits that will help you get on track. These habits will elevate your daily routine and improve your mood, too!
Schedule a Primary Care Visit
When was your last visit to the doctor? Too often, we forget about taking care of ourselves. All of the focus falls on our partners and kids. You must take care of yourself. For you and them. Get a full lab done and explain to your provider how you have truly been feeling. Low energy, tiredness, and fatigue may be signs of an underlying condition.
Conserve Your Energy
Darling, you are doing too much! Rest, it’s okay. Trying to be and do everything all the time is not okay. Prioritize yourself and set realistic goals. Sit, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Delegate a few of the things on your to-do list. It takes a village so build one. Laundry service, maid service, and ordering groceries are a few things you can have someone else do. Free some time for you.

Become Intuitive
Figure out what is going on. In most cases, there is a reason why you are feeling tired and sluggish. How are you feeling mentally? Depression shows up in multiple ways. Practice journaling as a way to track your mood and to express yourself and your feelings. Expressing yourself to someone may be difficult. Write it down.
Hydrate
Most of the human body is made up of water. It is necessary for our health and wellness. Not drinking enough water may lead to dehydration. Dehydration poses additional issues such as overheating and constipation. Add fruit, lemons, mints, or limes to water for a boost and a touch of flavor.
Practice Sleep Hygiene
Sleep hygiene includes activities and habits that aid in a night of restful sleep. Putting your phone down at 8 pm. Drinking lavender tea at night. Spraying your pillow with essential oils that encourage relaxation. All of these are habits of sleep hygiene. Wind down from your day. Designate time for a bedtime routine. It gives you something to look forward to. With a consistent bedtime routine, your body will begin relaxing around that same time each night. You are sure to rest better and wake up with the energy to conquer the day.
Check Your Diet
Struggling with chronic fatigue and low energy even with a good night’s sleep? It’s time to assess your diet. You may not be getting the nutrients your body needs. I would highly suggest cutting back on caffeine (yeah, I know) and processed foods. More grown foods, less processed foods. Consult a dietician and your primary care provider before making drastic changes to your diet.
Get Some Sun
Moderate sun exposure has been shown to affect our mood and mental alertness. Sunlight improves sleep by increasing melatonin. No need for those melatonin chews, get some sun! It also increases serotonin, “the happy hormone.” Getting a little sunlight may be just what you need.
Move Your Body
Move your body in a way that makes you feel good. There is no right or wrong way to exercise. Exercise means movement. Movement can be done anywhere in any way. Just move! Choose something, then set a goal and a reminder. It doesn’t have to be structured exercise. Be consistent. You don’t have to leave your home. Have a dance party by yourself at home. Go play outside with the kids in the evening. Have fun.
Limit Screen Time
Raise your hand if you tend to check your phone as soon as you wake up . . . my hand is up! Well, I used to do that. Now I make a major effort to not pick it up for at least 30 minutes upon waking up. The time spent mindlessly scrolling can be better spent getting things done. Adopt other hobbies. Explore new activities. Join a social group to engage with like-minded individuals. I see all of those improving your day-to-day in highly positive ways.
Set Boundaries
Set boundaries for yourself. You are responsible for your energy. Have you noticed that you feel drained after hanging out with a particular person? Protect yourself by limiting those interactions.
The better you feel, the better you can be for yourself and your family.
