My 7-year-old just turned 8, and I pulled out my paints and scissors to craft my creative way to celebrated her birthday this year. While these fun crafts pack a punch in terms of their wow factor, they are also budget-friendly and require only accessible- to intermediate-level crafting skills. And they’re not just for kids! Try surprising your husband, best friend, or favorite family member with these handmade homages to their special day!
Photo Banner
For this trip down memory lane, pick out 10-12 of your favorite photos of the birthday girl or boy. Order 4×6 prints, making sure to crop and resize so the majority of the print is their face. Cut out each face. Cut out triangles from your favorite scrapbook paper to look like party hats. Glue the hats on each photo face using a glue stick. Attach small pom poms to the top of each hat with hot glue. Attach the faces with hats to a string using tape and hang up!
Craft Paper Sign
These are all the rage on TikTok, so I had to try it myself! Trace or freehand your design on a piece of brown craft paper with chalk. Then, use a paintbrush to cover the design with acrylic paint in their favorite colors. If acrylic paint and a paintbrush feel too daunting, consider acrylic paint markers to give you more control over your design. There’s a lot of freedom to be as creative as you like with the design, or you can stick with something more beginner-friendly, like a traditional “happy birthday” message with balloons.
If you make one (or both!) of these to celebrate an upcoming birthday in your family, don’t forget to tag El Paso Mom so we can see and share your crafty creations! Happy crafting!
