This may be an unpopular opinion, BUT I think leggings should officially and forever be considered pants by all. I mean, why not?
With the fall weather finally settling in El Paso, I’m all about cozy, easy outfits that keep me comfortable without sacrificing style. And what better staple than leggings to achieve just that?
Why are we constantly trying to find a better alternative to a piece of clothing that we all like, that is comfortable, and that looks good?
Let’s stop feeling like we need to justify our love for leggings!
Leggings are ideal to round up capsule wardrobes, and are perfect for pulling together looks that range from relaxed to polished, taking you from morning drop-off to running errands to a lunch date with friends.
Here are three ways to up your leggings game this fall:
1. Throw On a Blazer
I love blazers. You know, the ones that are a little oversized and have this easy vibe about them, the ones with that “I woke up like this” vibe.
Throw a blazer over any outfit, and you’re automatically put together.
An oversized blazer over leggings is one of my fall uniforms, and it’s a winning combo every time. Try a graphic tee under a classic blazer with your favorite pair of black leggings and clean sneakers. The result? Casual yet polished; you’ll be ready for anything the day brings.
And when it gets colder, swap out the tee and sneakers for a chunky sweater and boots. Leggings adapt, and the look is as cozy as it is classy.
Pro tip: Opt for blazers in seasonal hues like camel, burgundy, or plaid for a pop of autumnal flair. Or go for black if you want that timeless, wear-anywhere vibe.
2. Wear a Button-Up Shirt
It’s no secret that I’m all for a good button-up shirt. It’s another wardrobe staple that pairs effortlessly with leggings, elevating the simplest day-to-day look.
A relaxed, oversized button-up is perfect for a breezy day look. Tuck it in for a laid-back style or knot it at the waist for a bit more flair. Experiment with colors and textures—think flannels, cotton…
When temps dip, layering is key. Throw on a puffer vest, and you’ll be ready for those unpredictable El Paso temperature swings.
Pro tip: Don’t be afraid to play with lengths—oversized button-ups or tunic-length shirts add that extra layer of interest while keeping things comfortable and mom-friendly.
3. Reach for a Cardigan
The cardigan-legging combo is basically the MVP of cozy, put-together outfits. Long, oversized cardigans or chunky knit dusters make this look feel sophisticated yet easy.
For a base layer, go for a simple, well-fitted tee, tank top, or cami. Throw the cardigan over it, and you have a look that’s effortless, polished, and functional.
Pro tip: Experiment with lengths and textures. A cropped cardigan can look just as chic over high-waisted leggings as a duster cardigan; figure out what works best for you.
Leggings don’t need to be relegated to lazy day status.
Leggings are a versatile and comfortable wardrobe staple perfect for rounding out a fall capsule wardrobe. After all, they have long been our go-to for quick, adaptable looks for a reason, and, with the right styling, they can go beyond casual.
So, let’s embrace leggings as the wardrobe MVPs they truly are. Whether you’re pairing them with a chic blazer, an easy button-up, or a cozy cardigan, this fall, let’s give leggings the credit they deserve.
Happy styling!
