Mom’s instinct is real. Even a first-time mom can detect when something is off with their little one. Don’t ask me how, but we know. Then there are those cases where we find out the day they are born they failed the newborn hearing exam or find out a tung tie is making our nursing goals unattainable. Though we might know something is not going as it should, we don’t always know how soon is too soon to get help or how much time we should give our little ones to master the new skill on their own. If you have questions abut Early Intervention for your child, here are a couple of places you can reach out to within the El Paso area.
PdN CHILDREN’S ECI
Early Childhood Intervention or ECI is a statewide program for families with children, birth to 3, with developmental delays or disabilities. ECI is state and federally funded through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA, P.L. 108-446). Families and professionals work as a team to plan appropriate services based on the unique needs of the child and family.
REGION 19 EARLY CHILDHOOD INTERVENTION (ECI)
ECI offers direct services for children birth to three years of age with a developmental delay, a diagnosed physical or mental condition with a high probability of resulting in developmental delay, or an auditory or visual impairment as defined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Services are based on each child’s individual needs and are provided in home or community settings. ECI services include but are not limited to:
- Developmental screening, evaluation, and specialized skills training services
- Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services
- Counseling and nutrition services
